Our team completed this fireplace tile restoration, replacing the old tiled. The project refreshed the base of the fireplace.
The finished hearth creates a contrast between the dark tiling and textured brickwork. A timber border frames the platform, connecting the new surface with the surrounding floorboards and giving the fireplace a defined edge.
Preparing and Cleaning
We began by removing the old tiles, which revealed a rough, pitted concrete base sloping away from the firebox. A hearth must be perfectly flat before tiling starts, or the new floor will crack under heat and daily use. We stripped the area back, protected the surrounding polished timber floor, and poured a self levelling compound across the entire hearth. This cured into a smooth, even foundation ready for the new surface.
Installing the Tiles
Once prepared, we set tiles in a brick bond pattern, selected by the owners to contrast against the painted brickwork. Every tile was cut tightly against the fireplace bricks, joints were kept even throughout, and a timber trim finished the outer edge so the hearth sits neatly alongside the floorboards. The result is sharp, modern, and built to last for decades.
Re Tiling a fireplace surround costs a fraction of a full replacement and preserves original brickwork. A professional restoration transforms the room and adds genuine value to a property.
